Catas presents a year of events to celebrate the 50th anniversary from the foundation

7 marzo, 2019

Catas, the most important Italian and European testing institute in the wood and furniture sector, is celebrating its 50th anniversary. It is a particularly important anniversary, characterized by constant growth since 1969, when the companies of the area initially understood the need to have a laboratory that during the following years has started to represent a reference for many services all over the world.

07.03.2019 Catas would like to celebrate its 50th anniversary with a year of events officially presented in three press conferences held in Milan, Udine and Lissone.

Academia Catas, Andrea Giavon, Catas Brianza, Cerved, Colección Ciceri de muebles antiguos, FederlegnoArredo, Franco Bulian, Lissone, Museo Etnográfico del Friuli en Udine, National Geographic, sucursal de la Cámara de Comercio para gestión de catas, Teletón, Training Camp de Lentate sul Seveso

Bernardino Ceccarelli
, president of Catas since 2014, introduced the conferences remembering the history of the Institute, but above all, the evolution of the laboratory, the long journey made since that distant 1969, when a branch of the Chamber of Commerce was created for the management of Catas. A story that is undoubtedly rich and intense, which has led the Friulan reality to be the protagonist of the world of testing, certification, training and standardization worldwide.

President Ceccarelli also remembered the second location, Catas Brianza, in Lissone, in the heart of the district of most famous design furniture in the world. In total Catas consists of about 10 thousand square meters of laboratory in which more than fifty highly skilled technicians work with a turnover of nearly seven million euros, made thanks to 2 thousand customers in 55 countries on four continents that in 2018 asked Catas to carry out 48 thousand tests.

Technical courses and seminars

The presentation of Franco Bulian, Deputy Director of Catas, illustrated the many initiatives planned for 2019, starting with the renewal of the catas.com web-site, in which a specific section dedicated to the fiftieth will be created where images, stories and documents will be collected contributing to outline three decades of activity and commitment of the many people who have allowed Catas to become what it is today.

The birthday is characterized by an ad hoc logo and a dense calendar of technical courses and seminars that will touch different Italian places. Catas has also chosen to celebrate this important event by creating a special issue in collaboration with the National Geographic, a publication in Italian and English languages that will represent a sort of original business card for Catas in the world. The laboratory has also commissioned Cerved to carry out a study on the satisfaction of its customers, so to objectively measure its effectiveness (the results will be announced in March).

There are also some initiatives dedicated to the territory where Catas is based, first of all the collaboration of Catas to the recovery and maintenance of the Ciceri Collection of antique furniture, furnishings hosted by the Friuli ethnographic Museum of Udine and the participation with its own team to Telethon, the 24 hours marathon in favor of the fight against rare genetic diseases known throughout the world and which will take place in Italy next December.

Catas Brianza

The fiftieth will obviously be celebrated also in the Catas Brianza headquarters with an open door event in two days, dedicated to the citizens of Lissone, where Catas has its Brianza site. A strong signal in a territory where the Catas has numerous partnerships and in which the commitment on the training activity is growing, with four courses (for a total of 180 hours of teaching) in the Training camp of Lentate sul Seveso created and managed by FederlegnoArredo, the national association that gathers the most significant part of the made in Italy in the wood-furniture sector.

The closure of Andrea Giavon, director of Catas, announced the inauguration of the new furniture laboratory, to be held in October 2019. A hyper-technological structure, a 4.0 laboratory of over 4,300 square meters – built in place of the structure destroyed by a fire in December 2016 – which will also host new spaces for the increasingly intense training activities of the Catas Academy.

A building that will give new wings to what has always been the strongest vocation of the center, ie testing components, materials, finished products of the world of furniture, to guarantee the health and comfort of those who will use them, as well as support to the manufacturing companies that will be able to know and possibly improve the quality of the results of their work.
